New TV Shows Arriving Summer 2024

Star Wars: The Acolyte (Season 1)

Get ready to be transported to a galaxy full of hidden secrets and rising dark-side powers during the last days of the High Republic era. Set about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the story begins with the Jedi and the Galactic Republic at their peak, while the Sith lurk in the shadows, preparing to rise.

A former Padawan teams up with her Jedi Master to investigate a string of crimes, only to find out that the adversaries they face are far more evil than they thought.

The cast is packed with stars including Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Rebecca Henderson, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Joonas Suotamo, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, and Dean-Charles Chapman.

Clipped

This miniseries dives into the 2014 racial scandal involving Los Angeles Clippers franchise owner Donald Sterling. The controversy blew up when compromising audio leaked to the media. In the audio, Sterling asked his personal assistant and mistress, V. Stiviano, to avoid hanging out with Black men. He told her she couldn’t post photos with Black men after she uploaded a picture with basketball legend Magic Johnson. He also forbade her to bring Black men to games [2]. The resulting scandal would end up with Sterling’s expulsion from the NBA.

FX’s Clipped takes you behind the scenes of these events, exposing Sterling’s messy marriage and the inner workings of the basketball organization.

Laurence Fishburne, Ed O’Neill, Jacki Weaver, Cleopatra Coleman, Kelly AuCoin, and other big stars will keep you hooked starting June 4 on Hulu.

Queenie (Season 1)

Series lovers should mark their calendars for the Queenie premiere on Hulu on June 7th.

Based on the novel by Candice Carty-Williams, Queenie follows the life of Dionne Brown, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman in South London who is facing a personal dilemma. After a breakup with her long-term boyfriend and seeking comfort in all the wrong places, she’s forced to face a painful reality. Queenie realizes she needs to look into her past before moving forward.

The main cast features Dionne Brown as Queenie, Bellah as Kiazike, and Samuel Adewunmi as Frank.

Fantasmas

On the same day, HBO is launching Fantasmas. This six-episode comedy series stars former SNL writer Julio Torres playing a fictional version of himself. The story kicks off when Torres sets out on an “impossible" mission to find a lost earring shaped like a golden oyster. Along the way, he meets new people, making the plot even more intriguing.

Presumed Innocent

This crime thriller hits Apple TV on June 12th. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a suspect in his mistress’s murder. The horrific crime sparks a scandal within the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s Office because Gyllenhaal’s character is the chief deputy prosecutor. Even though he claims he’s innocent, the evidence and his obsession with the victim make him look guilty.

AMC will air Orphan Black: Echoes on June 23. The series, created by Anna Fishko, explores the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as their lives intertwine and they embark on a thrilling journey, uncovering the mystery of their identities and revealing a heart-wrenching tale of love and betrayal.

This sci-fi series is a spin-off from the original Orphan Black, which premiered in 2013 and ran for five seasons.

The cast includes Krysten Ritter as Lucy, who has no memory of who she is after a mysterious procedure; Keeley Hawes as Dr. Kyra Manning, the grown-up daughter of Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) from the original series; Amanda Fix as Jules Lee, a teen adopted by wealthy parents; Avan Jogia as Jack, Lucy’s boyfriend; James Hiroyuki as Paul Darros, a billionaire whose fortune came from the secretive Darros Foundation; Jonathan Whittaker as Craig, who helps Lucy on her journey; Zariella Langford-Haughton as Charley, Jack’s young daughter; and Rya Kihlstedt as Dr. Eleanor Miller, Kira’s wife and fellow scientist.

What TV Shows Are Returning This Summer?

The Bear Season 3

Hulu’s The Bear, a favorite for the Emmy award, premieres on June 27.

This American comedy-drama follows a young chef from the fine dining world who comes back home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop. He is forced to take over the business after his brother Michael dies tragically.

Jeremy Allen White stars as chef Carmy Berzatto. The cast also includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach as cousin Richie, Ayo Edebiri as talented sous-chef Sydney, Lionel Boyce as pastry chef Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as stubborn line cook Tina, Abby Elliott as Carmy’s sister and co-owner Natalie, and Matty Matheson as handyman Neil Fak.

The Perfect Match

The Perfect Match Season 2 premieres on June 7. The dating reality show created by Chris Coelen features contestants from other Netflix reality shows like Love is Blind, Date and Related, The Trust, and The Circle. The twist is that as the participants compete to build relationships, the most compatible couples play matchmaker, breaking up other couples and sending them on dates with new singles they invite to the villa. Nick Lachey hosts The Perfect Match Season 2.

Bridgerton

Bridgerton Season 3 (Part 2) hits Netflix on June 13. This popular period drama follows the romantic lives of the Bridgerton family as they navigate the competitive world of Regency-era London’s high society. Part 2 focuses mainly on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s relationship.

Key cast members returning include Jonathan Bailey as Anthony, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope, and Luke Newton as Colin. The show also introduces new characters played by Hannah Dodd, James Phoon, Sam Phillips, and Daniel Francis.

The Boys

The Boys Season 4 launches on June 13. This American satirical superhero series is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Season 4 starts with Butcher (Karl Urban) racing against time to gather the team and attack Homelander (Anthony Starr) and the superhero community. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office, influenced by Homelander, who’s solidifying his power. With only months left to live, Butcher has lost Becca’s son and his position as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team is fed up with his lies. House of the Dragon (Season 2)

HBO’s fantasy epic House of the Dragon takes place two centuries before Game of Thrones. Matt Smith plays Daemon, a warrior prince surrounded by fire-breathing reptiles and palace intrigue. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, the series recounts notable events in Westeros 200 years before the original series.

After Season 1 introduced the key figures battling for succession after King Viserys’s death (played by the much-missed Paddy Considine), Season 2 will steadily bring the series closer to war.

Many Season 1 cast members return, including Emma D’Arcy as heir Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as her uncle Daemon, Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Alicent’s father Otto Hightower, and Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres on June 16.

The Bachelorette (Season 21)

Another popular show returning this summer is The Bachelorette Season 21, starting July 8 on ABC. The Bachelorette is a franchise of the dating reality show The Bachelor, following the same concept of matching couples. This is the first-ever Asian American lead, and the season won’t be filmed at the Bachelor Mansion. Jenn Tran, announced as the next “Bachelorette," starts her journey at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Santa Susana, California, before jetting off to international locations like Australia and New Zealand.

Cobra Kai (Season 6)

Stay tuned for Cobra Kai Season 6 on July 18. This Emmy-nominated Netflix series is a Karate Kid franchise sequel. Season 6 follows the renewed rivalry between Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny (William Zabka).

The Umbrella Academy (Season 4)

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 premieres on August 8. In the final season of this popular superhero drama, the Hargreeves family finds themselves in a newly rebuilt universe where they’ve lost their powers.

Bel-Air (Season 3)

Bel-Air Season 3 is getting closer, starting on Peaco*ck on August 8. It is based on a viral dramatic parody of ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This new adaptation transforms Will Smith’s breakout comedy into a substantial production tackling topics like racial tension.

Emily in Paris (Season 4)

On August 15, catch Emily in Paris. The Netflix drama continues the love triangle of Camille, Emily, and Gabriel. Season 4 explores whether Emily and Gabriel give in to their love after Camille calls off their wedding, which also leads Emily’s boyfriend Alfie to break up with her.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Season 2)

Season 2 of Amazon‘s priciest show, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, arrives on Prime Video on August 29. The series is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth from The Lord of the Rings, and viewers will enjoy beautiful scenery and top-notch production. In Season 2, Sauron has returned. Yasmin (Marisa Abela), Robert (Harry Lawtey), and Eric (Ken Leung) find themselves at the center of the splashy IPO of green-tech company Lumi, led by Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington), in a story running all the way to the top of finance, media, and government.
