In another word - 'clueless' 😁 Whoever came up with this clearly has zero experience in group dynamics.Ask anyone that's ever been in charge of a 'volunteer' group of more than 5 people. 100 people 'self-managing'? 😂 And the org may see the *initial* $600k annual savings, but it *won't* see the $3.6M because it won't be around that long.

Only management and bureaucracy are not the same thing. If your managers aren't contributing to the organizations ability to deliver value you have a different problem 🙂

That’s not how any of this works. Self-management is definitely possible. I would argue that it’s usually a better method, when it fits the context. But it doesn’t always. Self-management requires a level of both personal and organisational maturity that is uncommon. The organisation has to share information openly and willingly, with everybody who wants it. Because people can’t self-manage effectively without relevant information. And since you’re letting them manage themselves, they’re the only ones who can say what’s relevant. So if you aren’t a transparent organisation, full self-management is likely a mistake. Teams of individuals must also be both highly skilled and willing to learn, ask questions, admit when they’re wrong, and admit when they don’t know things. These folks tend to be more expensive, because they’re highly capable and make great teammates. It’s absolutely possible to build an organisation that self-manages successfully. It’s harder to convert an existing organisation. And it’s impossible to get there by just removing the managers/bureaucracy.

I don't thing those numbers are really represent the financial impact. What about other financial impacts like* throughput* cost of delay* time to market* unnecessary bureaucratic meetings and reporting* focus factor impact* innovation rate* pressure on teams* morale impact* attrition* and moreThen the value they contribute or impede also skews it.But one cannot have zero managers too as the can serve vital operational and administrative functions so the teams can on creating and delivering value. They can do things like- procurement- team welfare- finances, payroll- recruiting- logistics- onboarding- and moreIt also goes beyond just salary as there are other cost, thus what is the cost-to-company? E.g. Office space, equipment, payroll taxes, software licences and more.I reckon if you really get into the math then it will be a lot worse.

This is interesting math if you’re trying to save money. If you’re trying to make money … it’s not.

Exactly. You will always save a lot of money when you can get 2 people to do the work of 3, especially if you don't compensate them for the extra work based on market rates.Accountants worldwide approve. 👍

The comments here have not dissappointed! The idea is a novel one, however the calculations and assumptions make it problematic. Most have pointed that out already! Meaning I get to make a frivolous comment essentially saying 'good job everyone' 😅

Why are the managers being paid three times as much as the doers? This looks like figures made up to support a position rather than any kind of reflection of reality.100 people can't "self manage" effectively, it will naturally fragment into teams or cliques with informally appointed leaders, and then you need some people to manage coordination between the teams at least.

If I screw this up, I will lose my job 😱I am always surprised when I hear this phrase coming out of someone's mouth.People who are afraid of losing their job if they don't do their best. If they make mistakes.Afraid of their manager. What are these companies doing?I really don't understand it.Making mistakes is essential to learn and innovate!"If I screw this up, I will lose my job" Have you ever heard this being said?#management #leadership

🚗 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞What Driving Habits Teach Us About Company Culture...Today, I noticed many drivers sticking to the middle of the highway. This reminds me of how some companies operate - focusing on safety and sticking to what they know. While the middle feels secure, it can hold back new ideas and change. In contrast, self-managing organisations thrive at the edges, encouraging initiative and collaboration. How do you think we can encourage more movement towards the edges in our workplaces? 🚀#management #leadership #selforganisation #futureofwork

Reflecting on Martin Lindstrom's ideas from "The Ministry of Common Sense," one key point really stands out for me: Stop Asking For Permission. I suggest taking a "be a pirate" approach—be bold and make decisions that move things forward. You can always ask for forgiveness, right? Thanks for sharing this Timm Urschinger!#management #leadership #selforganization #futureofwork
